OTTAWA -- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal government survived a confidence vote Wednesday afternoon on an opposition Conservative Party motion to create a parliamentary committee to probe the government's ethics and COVID-19 pandemic spending.

ABUJA -- Three media offices were set ablaze on Wednesday by suspects who allegedly took advantage of a protest seeking to end police brutality in Lagos, Nigeria's economic hub, according to media reports.

The Lagos Television, a state-run media organization, Television Continental, a popular 24-hour news channel, and The Nation, a widely circulated daily newspaper, in separate areas of Lagos, were torched by the hoodlums who went on the rampage across the state, local broadcaster Channels Television reported. BAGHDAD -- Two Islamic State (IS) militants and three civilians were killed on Wednesday evening in separate attacks in Iraq's eastern province of Diyala, official and security sources said.

In one attack, a security force killed two IS militants in an ambush inside an orchard located near the town of Abbara in northeast of the provincial capital Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, mayor of the town Shakir al-Tamimi told Xinhua. (Iraq-Attacks-IS)

WARSAW -- Poland's daily number of confirmed coronavirus cases broke 10,000 for the first time on Wednesday.

The Polish Ministry of Health reported a record high of 10,040 new cases on Wednesday, with 130 deaths. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 202,579, while 3,851 people have died since the start of the pandemic. (Poland-Coronavirus-Record)
