SHANGHAI, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese sci-fi blockbuster "The Wandering Earth" will be re-released in Vancouver Friday local time by Cineplex, the dominant cinema chain in Canada, according to CMC Pictures, the distributor of the film.
The original release was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The Wandering Earth" is adapted from the same-name novel written by Liu Cixin, winner of China's Hugo Award. Directed by Frant Gwo, the film tells the story of a group of young people fighting hard for the survival of humankind as the sun dies out.
Among the most popular films of 2019, the sci-fi disaster epic ranked as the third highest-grossing film of all-time in China, breaking the North American box-office record for a Chinese film in the past five years.
As an influential film company in China, CMC Pictures has distributed many Chinese blockbusters overseas in recent years.
