More Thaksin scandal emerges in Thailand
Canada News.Net Monday 28th July, 2008
The struggling Thai government is facing another court case that could force three of its ministers out of office.
The Thailand Supreme Court has said it will consider a case against the deposed prime minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, and 46 other people of being involved in an illegal lottery.
The current finance minister, labour minister and deputy transport minister might all have to go.
The government of Prime Minister Samak Sundravej has already seen three other top officials forced out by previous court decisions.
Next week the Supreme Court will hear how the former Thaksin government introduced the new lottery saying it would eliminate illegal lottery operators.
The Thaksin scheme allegedly denied the government thousands of dollars in revenue.
Thaksin was overthrown in a coup in September 2006, but his allies in the People Power Party won the elections last December. Email this story to a friend
