French kidnap victims released in Niger
Canada News.Net Wednesday 25th June, 2008
Four French citizens abducted by Touareg rebels in Niger have been released and handed over to the International Red Cross.
The three men and a woman were kidnapped by rebels from the so-called Movement for Justice on Sunday.
The four are employees of the world's largest nuclear power company Areva, which mines most of its uranium in Niger.
The Touareg rebels have accused the government of driving people from their land in order to run uranium mines.
The Movement for Justice says it kidnapped the four French citizens to teach the mining industry a lesson.
