Canada mystery clouded by hoax
Canada News.Net Thursday 19th June, 2008
A coroner in the Canadian state of British Columbia has denounced as a hoax, the finding of another shoe which purportedly contained human remains.
A running shoe found washed up on a beach, was found not to contain human body parts, but instead, the remains of an animal.
The long-running saga of severed feet on Canada’s shoreline started last August when five dismembered human feet in shoes were discovered.
The latest find was on Wednesday when a woman collecting rocks spotted the hoax shoe-clad foot on a beach.
On Monday, a real human foot was found on another island off Vancouver.
Like four previous severed feet, it had been detached at the ankle.
Police have not reached any conclusions on the origins of the feet.
Organised crime, boating accidents and the 2004 Asian tsunami have been offered as possible explanations.
